Kerala Travel Guide Part Three // Purity
Day three of our weekend escape to Kerala finished right here as our private houseboat slipped slowly back into the dock at the Purity resort and spa. With an entire day ahead of us to relax before our evening flight from Kochi back to Chennai, we were greeted by a staff member clad in delicately pleated, rose-colored sari. We followed her swishing along stepping stones set into lush grass to our deluxe cabana for the day.Surrounded on three sides by a veranda overlooking the gardens of the resort and the lake beyond, we spent one of life's most tranquil days sandwiched between a small village of coconut mat weavers and the quiet shores of Lake Vembanad. We made our way almost immediately to the infinity pool where houseboats drifted silently by and palm fronds rustled gently overhead. The chants of nearby temples and the methodical sounds of Sunday laundry floated gently across the lake.A lunch Keralean seafood thali in the courtyard would be followed by a tour of the hotels magnificent collection of artifacts, contemporary art and photography displayed about the cool passageways surrounding the main courtyard. Beyond an afternoon nap on crisp, cool, white sheets in our cabana we slipped back into the pool for the remainder of the day. A day tour boat motored guests to and from villages about the lake, and the spa served up treatments from 60 minutes to 14 days.Strong afternoon tea, hot cookies and a personal chauffeur back to the airport was truly the only way to ease us gently from this paradise.
